ANNOUNCEMENT OF MEETING TO DISCUSS CURRENT STATUS OF CALDECOTT PROJECTS
October 7, 2013

Dear Stakeholders in the North Hills, Rockridge and Temescal neighborhoods,

You are cordially invited to a meeting to discuss the status of the projects funded through the City of Oakland’s Settlement Agreement with Caltrans over the Caldecott Tunnel Fourth Bore EIR.

Location:           Rockridge Public Library, 5366 College Avenue at Manila

Date & Time:    Thursday, October 17, 2013 7:30-9:00 p.m.

Background
In 2008, the City of Oakland concluded a settlement agreement with Caltrans that awarded $8 million for “enhancement” projects in the North Oakland Hills, Rockridge, and Temescal.  A multi-year public process concluded in 2011 with a final list of projects – all intended to ameliorate the operational impacts of adding a fourth bore to the Caldecott Tunnel.

During the past couple of years, Oakland engineering staff and their consultants have been developing the highest ranking projects on the Caldecott Settlement project list.  Unfortunately, as the detailed designs have unfolded, corresponding cost estimates have grown from the initial costs used to develop the list, in some cases significantly (see www.fourthbore.org/featured/caldecott-settlement-project-costs-coming-in-over-budget/ for more information)

October 17 meeting
At the October 17 meeting, we will review the effect current cost estimates may have on the ability to deliver other projects on the list and discuss options to address the resulting budget shortfall.  The Rockridge Community Planning Council is providing the forum for these discussions as part of its monthly town hall meeting. While the meeting starts at 7:30 PM, the discussion of Oakland’s Caldecott  Settlement Projects will begin at 8:00 PM. For more information, please come to the October 17 meeting or contact the City’s project consultant, Victoria Eisen at victoria@eisenletunic.com or 510-525-0220.

The meeting comment period extends until November 22, 2013 at 5pm. Send comments to Victoria Eisen, victoria@eisenletunic.com, 510-525-0220
